Willie Neal Johnson was born in Magnolia, Mississippi on January 1, 1953. He was the sixth of twelve children born to Willie and Annie Johnson. When he was three years old, his family moved to Gary, Indiana. It was there that he began his musical journey.

At the tender age of five, he joined the choir at his church, Progressive Baptist Church. It was there that he discovered his love for music and singing. Throughout his childhood, he participated in various choirs and singing groups. When he was sixteen, he joined the Gospel Keynotes, a local gospel group.

The Gospel Keynotes recorded their first album in 1971. The album was entitled, “Church Gittin’ Ready.” It was a huge success and helped to launch the careers of both Willie Johnson and the Gospel Keynotes.

Willie Neal Johnson was an American gospel singer. He was a member of the Fairfield Four, and recorded as a solo artist for Savoy Records. His best-known song is “He Brought Me Joy”, which was a hit on the Billboard gospel chart in 1966.

Johnson was born in Ripley, Tennessee, and moved to Nashville in the early 1940s. He joined the Fairfield Four in 1944, and recorded his first solo single, “I’m So Glad”, in 1947.
